Life Lesson From A Throwback
I have this beautiful life lesson from a throwback recently. I browsed my old travel photos for a post I plan. I came across some taken when I had...well, just had my heart broken.I was surprised because I looked...normal and happy.
I couldn't bare to look at myself, not even in photos, during that time. Because I felt so ugly and "not good enough". I think everyone who's been left for someone else would feel that way.
I didn't want to see the pain that's in my eyes though I had a smile plastered on my face for the camera.
Now, I look at those photos from a different lens; I can still remember the pain I was going through, but not feeling the pain anymore, and seeing only beauty. Looking at the photos, I see there was no pain in my eyes and hey, what a sweet smile I had on!
The beauty I saw in me was beyond the physical. I saw a girl deeply hurt and braving the odds with only faith as a weapon.
Faith that one day, the pain will go away. Faith that one day, the wounds will be healed. Faith that one day, He will turn my mourning into dancing. Faith that a day will come when I'll look back and I'll do myself proud for making it through. And I did.
I realized that only I can see that beauty because only I felt that pain. And it's very important that we should see that side of ourselves because no one else will.
I hope that whatever it is you're going through right now that makes you feel inadequate, ugly or worthless will soon end.
I hope that you keep that little ounce of faith in your pocket because I can testify that your mourning will turn into dancing.
I hope that you still look at yourself in the mirror every day and tell yourself you're beautiful despite the pain you see in your eyes, the sorrow you feel in your heart, and the tears falling as you say it.
What lessons have you learn from a throwback?

Hi, Lux!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful piece you have written. Survival is beautiful even if you are left with scars and even if those scars are emotional rather than physical. No matter how bad your situation, no matter how intense your pain, you can and must keep faith that your mourning will someday turn into dancing. If you persevere it surely will. I am proud of you for staying resourceful and working through your pain. I hope your life will continue to be a joyful, triumphant dance.
This is beautiful. It's so true that we can see our pain, we can see our beauty, and it's up to us to see what we want to see. I'm so glad He led you out of that dark stage. Definitely a beautiful smile on a beautiful girl (that somehow knew things were going to get better)!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful and so are you!!
ReplyDeleteI love the details. Very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLux, you are beautiful...inside and out, and this photo of you with the radiant smile is gorgeous. You are very photogenic. This is such a lovely post, thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazingly pretty Lux! You know we don't realize at times how beautiful we are and we remain dependent on others to say "that we are beautiful". When I was going through heart broke, I used to stand in front of the mirror and asked "Why Me?".... Time needs Time to heal and I am happy in my cocoon now!... Wonderful Post!
ReplyDeleteonly we are responsible for our smile.. others are catalyst :)
ReplyDeletetake care my dear!

ReplyDeleteThank you Lux for being so honest and just one comment - how you saw yourself as not pretty is incredible because you're stunning. You really are and you carry that stunning with you everywhere you go.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I love this post. I can look back at certain old pictures and remember the emotions I felt during them. Probably others can't see what I know was in my heart at the time, but I remember. And God is good. He brought me though it.
ReplyDeleteThis is so deep it got me tearing up. Glad you pulled through and yes, that smile is so beautiful. Time does heal it all.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post. I'm glad you can feel that sunshine now. I've gone through hell the last five years and overcome most of my roadblocks so I understand what you mean being able to look back, understand and not recall that horrible pain.

ReplyDeleteThat is really a sweet smile you had! Going through pain and overcoming it make you stronger, and I think now you can see how bravely you fought to overcome it. I've never seen myself like this. I should take a look at my photos from the past :-)

You know, many of the most beautiful people I know are the ones suffering through major difficulties. The courage to smile despite their struggles is one of the most lovely things I've ever seen--that determination to make it back to happy, even while crumbling inside. Now that's true beauty.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post and how lovely to know you're now in such a genuinely happy place! Keeping faith in our hearts at all times is essential - 'better days are always ahead' :)

Such a beautiful reminder, Lux. This is so timely for me. Thank you for sharing your life lesson. I like it when you said to keep that little ounce of faith in your pocket. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteBoth pictures are beautiful, Lux! Yes, we need to always remember that we each are beautiful in our own ways, regardless of what is circling around us.
ReplyDeleteLooking at your past always helps for your future. Life is all about learning lessons x

Lux, you are definitely NOT a throw back or second best - - and that other person was the loser not you. Your smile came from inside, not from the pain. Knowing Jesus brings out the best in a believer. Thank you for sharing with us here at Tell me a Story.
ReplyDeleteLove this hopeful and uplifting post!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderfully written post and I 100% understand where you're coming from, I've had the same feelings, I've had the same struggles. When it comes down to it, we live and learn, we learn from our mistakes, we learn every single day. Everything won't be okay right away, but eventually it will be. You're a beautiful and talented woman and I'm glad you could overcome this :)

Both photos are gorgeous. You make a good point though - you can't tell how someone is feeling inside when they are smiling on the outside! Thanks so much for sharing with #candidcuddles
ReplyDeleteLife goes on, no need to look at bridges we're burning...and smile and the whole world smiles with you. Cheers!!!
ReplyDeleteIt has been a very long time since I suffered the pain of a broken heart but I do remember thinking things would never get better. Pain does fade.
ReplyDeleteDear Lux.. oh that mask that so easily comes on to hide the depth of our heart. Bless you for smiling anyway. The Lord has something deeply beautiful in store for you. Keep smiling, have faith, and keep trusting the Lord. You are beautiful, inside and out! Hugs to you today!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this. Thanks so much for sharing.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post! It's wonderful to look back and to see how we have been sustained by the strength of Christ in us through it all!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you can see your life lesson learned from this photo. It amazing how a photo can say a thousand words to the right viewer. I'm sure I have many of my own that I may have learned, but none come to mind right this second. #FridayFrivolity

ReplyDeleteLux, I've missed you and your insights :-) ... I wish I could look back and see that happy look, when I look at pictures I see the sadness in my eyes. I am hopeful one day that will be different xox
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Lux. Have you read Milk & Honey? Your post reminded me of a chapter in that poetry book :)
ReplyDeleteLux, I've had a throwback like that too recently, and I am left in awe of how God strengthens and carries us when we are not even aware. Love this reminder to point us back to the One who upholds us with His strong right hand! And...you are a beautiful woman my friend!
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful - thank you for sharing your insight and encouragement with us all! I'm going through a really tough patch right now with my health and despite knowing that one day it will all be okay again, sometimes I get too bogged down in waiting for that day rather than being present in where I am right now. And, as you say, without the pain we don't always recognise the beauty, because it gives us a whole new perspective on life and ourselves. So thanks for this beautiful reminder x
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful life lesson to have learned, and it's amazing what taking a moment to look back can really teach us as well!
