These Rivers men! I read the story of Cash Rivers in the first installment of the Lucky River Ranch series by Jessica Peterson, and I loved it. Now, I'm obsessed with Wyatt and Sally. Here's my Wyatt book review (and raving).
Wyatt Book Summary
Wyatt: Fck me for falling in love with a girl who was never, ever going to be mine.
Sally: Hooking up with your best friend of twenty years is definitely not a smart move.
Falling for her best friend was never part of the plan. Neither was letting him teach her how to seduce a cowboy…
Sally’s back in Harstville for a few months, and she’s ready to end her dry spell—preferably with a cowboy who knows how to ride.
Wyatt Rivers fits the bill except for one tiny problem. He’s her best friend. The untamed, too-hot-for-his-own-good cowboy Casanova who never stays the night.
She’s loved him forever, but he’s never looked at her that way.
So when he agrees to help her sharpen her flirting skills, it’s all in the name of friendship… until fake dates turn into stolen kisses, and lessons in seduction lead straight to his bed.
Now Sally wants more—wants him—but Wyatt was never meant to be her forever. Cowboys like him don’t settle down. Hearts like hers don’t walk away unscathed.
Too bad she’s never been one to play it safe.
Tropes
- Besties to lovers
- Cowboy romance
- Vet x cowboy
- He got a tattoo for her
- Reformed playboy
- Ropes are involved in more ways than one 😉
- Steamy (so steamy it could fog your Kindle screen)
- Swoony (because this is a River man we’re talking about)
- Mutual pining
I got no choice when it comes to Sally Powell. If she’s unhappy, I’ll move heaven and earth to make her feel better. I’ll do whatever it takes to make her see she’s perfect just as she is. And then I’ll let her go, just like I did twelve years ago.
Book Characters
Sally Powell
- A bad*ss vet, horse charmer, who's got a vet surgeon position offer in one of the best universities.
- A good daughter who wants to have more fun but doesn't know how, so she enlisted her bestie, who's a player, to give her some seduction lessons.
“You’re like sunshine, you know? Sounds cheesy, but it’s true. I always feel so much better when you’re around.”
Wyatt Rivers
Life of the party. Rope master. A ladies' man but a loyal friend and a hardworking cowboy.
Really, Wyatt got this sunshine thing all wrong. He’s the one who’s the sun. The rest of us just float in his orbit, waiting our turn to bask in his warmth and attention.
Wyatt by Jessica Peterson Book Review
The friendship between Sally and Wyatt is just so beautiful and enviable. It's so good to know you have that one person. Your ride-or-die.
“I have a favor to ask.”
“Answer’s yes.”
“Let me ask it first.”
“Answer’s still yes.”
I love everything about Wyatt Benjamin Rivers (These Rivers men are built differently).
The effort he puts in to make Sally feel special, despite them knowing each other for most of their lives.
And I like his cool, charming exterior with a certain depth, which he only shows to specific people.
Despite being the town's Casanova, he's completely gone for her. And I think she is, too.
My entire being rebels at the thought of letting this girl go. Every single one of my cells screams at me to keep her here, to make her mine. That’s when I know I’m in love with her.
And Sally Powell. This girl is unstoppable. I love a good vet. Her authenticity and grit are something I aspire to see more of in this world.
“Ever consider you could never ever hold me back, even if you tried? You’re not a roadblock, Wyatt. You’re the wind beneath my fcking wings.”
Their support for each other, putting the other person first, is the sweetest.
“You’d do that?”
“Stupid question.”
“That’s…wow. One hell of a gesture.”
“I’m one hell of a boyfriend.”
I like the small town of Hartsville. The Rivers, of course, plus Mollie. These are amazing people you'd want to be surrounded with.
For a second, the push and pull had me worried. Was this heading into a full-blown miscommunication trope?
Because that’s not the vibe I signed up for. But thankfully, they worked through it quickly.
I gotta help her make her dreams come true because, well, Sally is my dream.”
If you haven’t met the Rivers men yet, there’s no better time. Lucky River Ranch is waiting.

ReplyDeleteOy, I don't like it when they feel they need to use the F word abundantly in the books.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this wonderful review!

Ah, this sounds such a sweet story - perfect for a cosy afternoon with a hot chocolate!
ReplyDeleteI adore friends-to-more and then it's the Casanova committing to one woman - love it. Maybe I shouldn't, but I do.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a fun one.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good fit between the two of them even if they didn't think of themselves that way before. Why go looking if the good guy is standing in front of you. lol.

ReplyDeleteI want to read this one! Though I still need to read the one about Cash. :D
ReplyDeleteFriends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. Glad to hear you enjoyed it! :)
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if this how all relationships played out IRL. And that is Wyatt in the lower right in the first image, is this AI? Too bad we could reproduce in the real world LOL.

Love small town romances! Happy to hear the miscommunication trope wasn't used here. Not a fan of it either. Love your photo collage!
ReplyDeleteThis one sounds super cute! I haven't read a cowboy romance in ages.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love anything by Jessica Peterson! I haven't gotten to this book yet, but it's definitely on my TBR.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of this book or its author, but I have a series on my shelf that is a kind of western-looking series. It's three books and each book follows a sibling (I think) as they find romance. Glad you enjoyed this one! Thanks for recently visiting my blog.
